Gel Plate Printing - Botanical Books with Karen Carter - Thurs 23rd July 2026

Create a multi-layered book of work incorporating gel-plate prints, simple line monoprints, transfers and collage.

We will use acrylic paints to create layered images using fresh foliage, masks and textures from a gelli-plate. We will experiment with positive & negative images, ghosts and residue prints to produce a stash of work which we will then collage together into a unique concertina book, simply made from a single piece of paper.

Make prototypes of three different versions of a folded book then choose your favourite to make into a finished item, adding in line monoprints and simple transfers for contrast and detail and a bit of spattering to bring everything together!

A fun experimental mixed media print project suitable for everyone.

Karen is an enthusiastic and experienced artist and tutor specialising in printmaking and acrylics. Having studied design and illustration, she worked for many years as a commercial artist before concentrating on her own work. Read more about Karen on her website: karencarterart.co.uk
