Two techniques in a two-day linocut printmaking workshop

Join us for a two-day linocut printmaking workshop with artist Sam Marshall.

Sam is the author of the bestselling book, ‘LINOCUT – A Creative Guide to Making Beautiful Prints,’ published by Bloomsbury. She is currently working on her second book, ‘SKETCH,’ which will be published in 2026.

Sam creates linocuts and etchings inspired by her sketchbook drawings made while travelling around the world. She is passionate about drawing and believes everyone can draw; she encourages you to use your drawings and sketchbooks for inspiration during the workshop. Sam will provide worksheets in advance so you can prepare your drawings and designs.

On the first day, you will create a reduction linocut using an A6 linocut block. Sam will introduce you to the technique, show examples of her work, and demonstrate the Ternes Burton registration method, which you will use for both techniques. You will produce a small edition of prints from your reduction linocut.

On the second day, you will work on a multi-block linocut. Sam will explain two different approaches to this technique, and you will work with three or four A6 linocut blocks. You will carve your blocks and print a small edition of prints from your multiple blocks.

This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as more experienced printmakers. Sam is also teaching an Experimental Printmaking course over two days on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd August.

Sam is a full-time artist living in rural Northamptonshire with her mini dachshund, Miss Marple. She also teaches at the Royal Drawing School.
